Enric Miralles’ Cool Cemetary

Filed under: Architects and Architecture — kasper @ 12:46 am

I know your not supposed to talk about your final resting place as something cool, or in a context of entertainment, but in the case of the Miralles Cemetary in Igualada I think there is a beautiful philosify behind!

The cemetary is inspired by the Prince Puckler-Muskau in Banitz, and the Al Miniah a necropolis on the Nile of Egypt.

So… the philosify is to make a funeral home that is a memento mori (my translation would be remembering (memento) and dead (mori), and not only a place where you can perform the funeral service!

By making a sort of city of the dead, the mourners are able to “visit” their dead friends or family!

But another reason why it is cool is because of the daring architecture! The place is very raw, and that celebrates what kind of a place it is!

But for you to understand, below are some pics from the site

If you want to visit the Miralles Cemetary in Igualada, you need to take a train from Placa Espanya to Igualada… But be sure to get the right ticket… We where thrown off the train because our tickets where not valid.. You live you learn (weird context to say that.. I know ;) )

B n’ B Bikes

Filed under: Cool:, Tours, Barrio "Gotico" — kasper @ 12:05 pm

BnB-Bikes

This is a bike and scooter tour operator that offers fun, health and learning experience rolled into one… but what really matters… those bikes are awesome…. especially with their choppers you’ll look really cool browsing slowly through town! They also offer tours of barcelona on the funny looking segways, which are a bit nerdy, but hey…. for you lazy guys out there…. it’s an alternative! Another cool thing about BnB Bikes are that they offer night tours…. now that is cool, sliding though Barcelona by night on a chopper…. and no…. it aint cool doing that on a segway ;)

BnBBikes

BnB Bikes also sell bikes, so it is possible to live the live of a real bohemian on a cool chopper bike from BnB Bikes..

Alternatively you can rent bikes alone, and some of the standard packages are as follows:

  • 9 Euros for 3 hours
  • 15 Euros for a whole day
  • 2 hour tour of BCN is 15 Euros

So it seems that even the prices are cool!

You can find BNB bikes at C/ Baixada del Cacador, 1 (the link will open a map in a new window)
BnB Bikes are open from 10 am to 9 pm daily

Visit their own website: BnBBikes

Enjoy your tour
